Thanks Governor O'Neill

Governor William O'Neill was very open to reporters. He was straightforward and expected the same. He was always kind to me, maybe because of the Irish heritage we shared and his love for cars. The Governor was a proud owner of a black 1960 Thunderbird.

When you look back at his ten plus years in office (ten years & ten days) his was a remarkable accomplishment. I was there the morning the Mianus River Bridge collapsed in Greenwich, June 1983. The Governor embarked on a $6.5 billion dollar highway bridge and rebuilding program. The same year, he raised taxes $250 million to fend off a state
deficit. Tough calls for a very wise and intelligent man.

First Lady, Nikki O'Neill was always there too, by his side. She'd answer the phone at the house in East Hampton....and let you talk to the Governor. He was the first to say his job was difficult, an awesome responsibility. Its not that he aspired to be the Chief Executive of the State of Connecticut, that's just how the cards fell, and he dealt them well. Thank you Governor.

TIS THE SEASON TO GIVE

Happy Thanksgiving! I just finished getting rid of last year's Holiday weight gain. Note to self, watch the trimmings.
We all have our personal reasons for giving thanks. Even though illness has taken away many loved ones this past year, it gives us pause to appreciate the time we did have with them, and the time we have with those loved ones we sometimes take for granted.
This is the season of giving, so why not give someone a hand that you otherwise may not, give someone a break if you have a difficult relationship, or just give more of yourself. The price is right, the cost - a little more compassion.

Happy Holiday

I-95

I-95 is not a speedway. I-95 is not a live video game. Everyday I see drivers drive as if it is a raceway or a video game. Let me tell you speedsters something, you're getting nowhere fast. The tight, narrow ribbon of roadway at exit 74 in Flanders to the split with I-395 has a posted speed limit of 45 or 50mph. I bet tomorrow or any day this week, just days after a fatal horrendous crash there, I will be able to clock 4 wheelers and multi-wheel trucks hitting 70-to 80mph. Oh, it's not just there, believe me. Try maneuvering through Fairfield County via I-95 or i-91 Northbound in Middletown just beyond the rest stop.
I'll get back to you next week and report my findings.
